Popular Regions in France that Produce Wine

For those who are just beginning to love drinking wines, it is good to know that the greatest tasting wines come from grapes that were grown in very ideal environmental condition in order to give the great taste to its wine. There are only a few places in the world where the best wines are produced. In these regions, grapes are grown in optimal weather conditions. The best quality wines comes from grapes produced in these kinds of environment. One of the great wine regions of the world is France.

When wine is being discussed, people always think of the country of France. France is one of the largest wine-producing countries in the world. Billions of bottles of wine are produced in France yearly. France has the largest share in the world’s wine market. You will find different distinct kinds of wine in every region that produce wine in France. And this is true despite using the same type of grape. This is due to the special characteristics of the land.

Here is a list of wine producing regions in France which are very popular.

In the eastern part of France on the river Rhine is Alsace which is wine-producing region. It is the white wine region but it also produces some red wines. Pinot Noir, Riesling, Muscat and more are the popular grapes grown in this region.

Bordeaux is a red wine region located along the Atlantic coast of France. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and sometimes Cabernet Franc are blended to produce the wines that this region exports.

Burgundy or Bourgogne is located in the eastern part of France. Equally popular are red and white wines produced in tis region. Burgundy is broken down into four sub regions including Cote de Nuits, Cote de Beaune, Cote Chalonnaise and Maconnais. Chardonnay grapes are used for white wine while Pinot Noit grapes are used for red wine.

Close to Belgium and Luxembourg is Champagne which is the home of France’s world-famous sparkling wine. Champagne is also a region where still or non-sparkling wine is produced.

The wine region located on an island in the Mediterranean Sea is Corse or Corsica. They produce table wines that are made for consumption on the island itself. You should join a wine tasting tour in order to try their tale wines.

Wine made from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are produced in the mountains of Jura close to Belgium.

Most of the table wines in France are produced from the largest regions in terms of vineyard surface and this Languedoc-Roussillon

The Loire Valley along the Loire River is a white wine region with many vines growing along the river basin.

Provence and Rhone are both very warm and mainly produce rose and red wines.

Savoy located in the Alps produces mostly white wines that are made from grapes only found in this region.
